The joys of being a full-time working momma

When we moved back to live on Martha’s Vineyard our lifestyle needed to change a bit. I was fortunate to find a full time job to be able to sustain my daughter. For the past couple of years I’ve been working alongside some amazing professionals in a place I call my second home… Martha’s Vineyard Hospital. 

If you don’t find me behind my lens creating special memories for my clients or behind my laptop fiercely working as the Breastfeeding World founder; you will find me in the Rehab and Wellness department running our every day operations and advocating for our patients. 

I have to admit that my favorite part of every day is getting home. The most beautiful smile awaits me by the door, eager to give me a welcome hug. Therefore, this constitutes as being the true joy of full-time working momma. 

Fun Facts to know About Me

• I’m a Latina, born and raised in Guayaquil, Ecuador. 
• Fluent in Spanish, English and Portuguese.
• Became a Harry Potter Fan early on. In other words, you may call me a #Potterhead.
• I may or may not be somewhat addicted to frozen yogurt. 
• Love dancing all the latino rhythms out there. 
• Culture, History and Archaeology are some of my favorite topics of discussion.
• Karaoke? Only while driving to-from work.

Our Photography Community is one of a kind.

Breastfeeding World began as a project using the art of photography. In this, we aim to showcase the beauty and essence of breastfeeding through outstanding images from talented photographers all over the world.

Back in late 2013 after having been harassed for nursing in public with a cover, Alexia Garcia, a then NYC based family photographer and single mom to a beautiful little girl decided that it was time to use her skills to help mothers in New York City and around the world show the importance of breastfeeding through the art of photography.

“When you are an artist it can some times be tricky to find the right inspiration or the right muse that will help you start off a project and not look back… I on the other hand was very fortunate”. – Alexia Garcia

Together with her support system: brother Christian Garcia and mother Bella Garcia, they conceived and founded Breastfeeding World as a platform in which mothers would be able to find guidance and encouragement to continue their path of breastfeeding. 

Alexia set her goal of gifting 50 NYC moms a free photo session, she partnered with local makeup artists and fellow photographers who volunteered their time and talents. In October 2014 Alexia and her new team of volunteers began the process of photographing and filming these mothers, they were able to portray 85 moms in different iconic locations throughout the big apple. 

Then, the Photo Project grew into something bigger!

It is now also a promotion aimed at showing that not only is breastfeeding natural, but that mothers have a legal right to nurse babies and toddlers in public. In providing families a platform to normalize breastfeeding through imagery, The Breastfeeding World Photo Project created the perfect opportunity for it’s participants to share with others the struggles and successes that they might have faced during their breastfeeding journey. By doing so, we are able to join together within a breastfeeding World of women, empowering and providing a support network for nursing mothers all around the globe. 

“Spreading the Breastfeeding Love”

Sadly, many women are still uninformed of the great benefits of providing breastmilk to their little ones. Other women try nursing, but get lost in the process since they don’t have the support they need. Some are so overwhelmed by motherhood itself that they give up their dream of breastfeeding all together. And yet, even with the proper knowledge and support, some families find it medically necessary to end their breastfeeding journey before they intend to. Keeping this in mind, Breastfeeding World’s main goal is to encourage new moms and moms-to-be to overcome their fears, find support, and “spread the breastfeeding love” in a loving manner. We have had the opportunity to get to know and to photograph some lovely mothers with great testimonies ranging from being diagnosed with cancer to having been discriminated for breastfeeding in public, all these wonderful women had one objective in their minds: providing the very best for their babies, and they – against all odds – went for it and have succeeded so far!

What began with Alexia and her passion for uniting photography and breastfeeding in New York City, Breastfeeding World has grown into a beautiful network of photographers from all over the world. Breastfeeding World Photography Outreach Program creates an opportunity for artists and mothers in small communities to come together for a great cause.

These photographers volunteer their time and talent because they believe in our mission, they believe in empowering women, and they believe in the bonding power and natural beauty found between mother and child. I am a single mom to the most amazing little boy in the entire world. He is the light of my life! We also have the two sweetest doggies who complete our little family. I am a high school teacher and a photographer, and am very passionate about breastfeeding, babywearing, attachment parenting, and raising my son in the most natural way possible!

A birth doula formerly out of Brooklyn, we moved our family to the foot of Mt Beacon in the Hudson Valley, NY. Between raising two kids, a greyhound and a sphynx cat- and supporting birthing people and their families through pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum, I have my hands full- and my heart more so! My life is a constant stream of breastmilk, grocery shopping and gratitude.

Kristina is the mother of 4 and has experienced a wide variety of birth events from trauma to loss. She has been married to her soul mate for 10yrs. She started her business after the birth of her second daughter which she says “was a very healing birth in comparison to her first childbirth experience.” She has been photographing life events since she was a teenager and decided to pursue birth photography professionally after attending several friends and families births in 2015. Her favorite thing about being a business owner is “owning my own businesses allow me to have the flexibility to stay home and homeschool my kids who are 2yrs, 4yrs, 7yrs and 8yrs old.”

Kristina is a Certified Child Labor Doula, CBI Certified Placenta Preparation Arts Specialist, APPA Certified Sacred Belly Bind Wrap Artist, Sacred Pregnancy Certified Child Passenger Seat Technician, Safekids Worldwide She has recently created a radio show on Nuubeatradio.com with her co-host and doula business partner Katelyn White called ” Two Moms and a Mic” where they speak on all topics relating to parenthood including birth, postpartum and family dynamic shifts after children.
