My baby turned 4
You read that right, my baby turned 4. Or at least he was a baby.
Last time I could remember, he had ten tiny fingers and ten tiny toes.
Last time I could remember, he smelled of momma’s milk, fresh and sweet.
Last time I could remember, he would only sleep with his ear to my heart, remembering what it used to be like when we were one.
Last time I could remember, we were one…
Now we are two
In what feels like one sleep, he has grown before me. He is now a little boy.
While I think back and I find myself sad at the time that has passed me by so quickly, it is not all bad. Everyday, I am blessed to watch him mature, watch him transform before my eyes. I watch him discover new things and look at the world with such wonder. Everything about this change, about him, brings me more joy than I could ever find the words to describe. Everyday, he renews my sense of curiosity, I find myself trying to see the world as he does, in all its glory and innocence. I am in awe of the life that my husband and I have created. Through all the challenges of motherhood, I know that I will come out of the other side with these memories: the memories of us together, playing, exploring, and loving.
This year, we decided to have a birthday party for him. We have made very important friends this year, lifelong friends, and we thought it significant to celebrate this big event together. We decided on a Lego theme! Our boy loves Legos, which I find particularly awesome. I have so many fond memories of playing with Legos as a child. I love to watch his creative mind work and grow as we (or he) build these amazing things. We worked for weeks, planning and creating, to make this party a Lego explosion (which is why I have been quite absent from the blogging scene). But, seeing the final product come together, was so awesome. Seeing those big eyes light up at the sight of his favorite toy, made all of the work, completely worth it.
All of our best friends joined us at Alley Pond Environmental Center. We made an owl out of a wood slice! Our boy was able to choose three animals to pet and learn about, he decided on: a bearded dragon, a snake and a very fluffy bunny. They were all quite a hit! As a group, we went on a nature walk, learning about the environment around the center and what is means to take care of our earth. After all of the fun, we were ready to eat! We had all of Richie’s favorite things, pizza, cupcakes, chocolate, and more!
Now that it is all over, the party has come and gone, and the big day has passed us, I still find myself wishing, hoping that I could slow down time. Requesting that I could just hold on a second longer to 3. But, alas, on we soar into 4 and all I can do is hope that I can keep up with everything that is to come.
My sweet, sweet boy, I love you with all of my heart. Thank you so much for opening my eyes to a world I had no idea could be so beautiful. Thank you for making me your mommy.
How do you deal with the speeding time that passes up mommies by?

Born and raised in NY, I studied speech and language pathology at NYU. I am a stay at home mom to two beautiful children, Richard and Charlotte and wife to my wonderful husband, Rich. I have always had a deep love for learning, which has grown further since becoming a mother, I am always looking for new ways to enrich our lives. Becoming a mother changed my life, I learned compassion, caring and most importantly, true love. I hope to share the experiences of my breastfeeding, cloth diapering, babywearing, crocheting, full of love, life.
